Woes and Joys of a New Computer

A computer wasn't budgeted until June, but most of you will recognize the term "Charge". I'm thrilled with the speed of the new computer, because my old one while only three years old moved at the speed one would expect from a dinosaur!

The woes I really can't blame on the computer, I neglected to copy my email address book and favorites list which included all my favorite blogs and knit sites. Because I didn't buy a new monitor all I have to hook up to the old computer is a monitor that was given to me and it doesn't work with the old computer, but it did with the new one (strange, huh?). So, I either have to switch the two monitors or something to allow me to get into the old computer, and I'm so burned out after tranferring all my files, that I just simply don't want to do it . . . at least not today.

So if you're reading this, and you have my email address, would you please email me so I can put you in my address book? Also, please feel free to send me your blog addy's and favorite web sites! It would be of great help!

TIA,
Shelly (who hasn't had any time to knit and is suffering from withdrawls)

The Winner is . . .

Becky with the suggested name of "Scarves From the Heart". Congratulations Becky! And a huge thank you to all who took the time to send suggestions for the name. I wish I could give each and every one of you a prize, but let's face it, that really isn't very realistic. I'll be contacting Becky as soon as I finish this post.

In the near future (I'm not quite sure how near) look for the new web site for the project! I'm also hoping to come up with a logo of our own. If you're an artist and would like to do a logo for us, please feel free to contact me at theyarntart at yahoo dot com. I apologize in advance that I cannot afford to pay anyone to do this, but remember this is a charity project!

Now I'm off to contact Becky and spend a few minutes with my lonely knitting needles after a day of computer shopping. I did find one with Windows XP, bought it and tomorrow will have more ram added, then I will begin the dreaded task of transferring all the files from this one to the new one!

Happy knitting friends!

Y chromosome malfunction!

Just today I heard that phrase, for I think the very first time. In plain language - blame a man.

When I hadn't heard from Jim or his staff about "naming" the scarf project, I sent off an email to him over the weekend. Here's his reply;
sorry I haven't gotten back to you

what I did was type of a list of about 15 or so of the "bolded ones" and started having it passed around asking folks to put check marks by their favorite 3..
and then I forgot about the list ..
and after two people looked at it it was sitting by a desk ..so
the list is being actively passed around today

I'll get back to you in a day or two.

So, my apologies for the delay in announcing a name, but it should be coming yet this week. I received a second email with a hint about which name would be chosen, but I'm not sharing until it is definite.

Meanwhile, I've been continuing to work on a reversible cabled scarf in red, which seems to be taking forever. And also on some squares for WUA, which I'll give to my friend tomorrow night.

Have you discovered that it is a task in futility to try to do color work using eyelash yarn? I tried to do a white heart in a red scarf and finally quit in frustration, so I think for Mother's Day I will ask for a lesson at our LYS in such things. I've done a bit of it in a bag I made, and with wool it wasn't all that difficult, but with novelty yarn it's a whole other story!

I hope to have an answer on the "Name" later in the week, but for now it's time to feed the natives (hubby) and do some knitting on the last WUA square.
