Name that "Scarf Project" Contest

This scarf project has been on-going since it's inception back in August, and because I plan to continue it indefinitely "it" needs a name. If you want to read more about "it" check out my archives, beginning on Aug 5, '06. There were other pertinent posts on Oct. 3rd and 8th, and again on Dec. 20th, with a few mentions of donations, etc on other dates.

So, here are the rules, and the prize that you can win!

1. What do I need to do to enter?

Think of an original name for the scarf project, keeping in mind that someday it may benefit more than just the cancer center we now donate to. Also keep in mind that we accept both knitted and crocheted scarves. When you've thought of a good name or two, search the internet to make sure that name isn't currently being used by another charity project or a company or group that could file a law suit over the name. When you're confident the name is original, and not currently being used, leave a comment with the name and a way for me to contact you. Or you can email your entry to me at "the yarn tart at yahoo dot com" with "Scarf Project Contest" as your subject line.

2. Who will choose the final name?

I will check all entries to be sure they are original, and narrow the field to about 12 names, then the final name will be chosen by my contact, Jim Linderman, along with members of his staff, at the Sister Mary Pia Cancer Center where all the scarves are currently donated.

3. When does the contest start and end?

The contest begins immediately, and all entries must be received prior to midnight on Sunday, January 28th, California time. The winner will be notified as soon as Jim and his staff have an opportunity to make the decision, but no later than February 14th.

4. What is the prize?

Over 1,000 yards of Yarn! Fantastic, fun, funky, and flirty!
1 skein Ironstone Yarns "Showstopper" in color 204, 100 yds
5 skeins Paton's VooDoo in color Night Sky, 166 yds total
4 skeins Laines Du Nord Ombre in color 53, 298 yds total
2 skein Paton's Divine color Chantilly Rose, 284 yds
and some brand name, mystery yarn not shown in the photo or listed.
Additional rules;
1. Entries with no contact information will ineligible.

2. In the case of duplicate entries, only the first one received will be kept.

3. The name will be chosen based solely on it's appeal and appropriateness to the project, with no regard to who sent it in. Also, Jim and his team will not be given any information about the persons whose entries are given to them for consideration.

4. If for any reason I am not able to contact the person who sends the winning entry I will post the name of the winner on the same lists I post the contest and it will then be up to that person to contact me.

So put on your thinking caps, and I wish Good Luck to all! Please feel free to share this on other blogs and yahoo groups, it's ok if I'm inundated with entries!

For anyone who would like to contribute to the project, the new email address to contact me for mailing information is "the yarn tart at yahoo dot com". A quick over-view of the guidelines;
scarves can be any color, any size (think logically), we need scarves for both men and women, they can be knit or crochet, any yarn (please either send a label with the scarf or a note listing the fiber content and laundry instructions). You may send along a personal note if you wish, these are always left with the scarf they are sent with. Please use only clean yarn or launder the scarf before sending it. If you have smokers or pets in the home I ask that you launder the scarves and keep them in plastic bags to keep them clean and smoke, dust and dander free. The recipients of these scarves often have severely compromised immune systems and it's important that we not endanger their health further by providing a product that could cause an allergic reaction.

Thank you to all of you out in cyber space who have already donated scarves and/or yarn! I wish I could put into words how much I appreciate each and every one of you, but words just don't seem to express my feelings very well. This past week has been bitterly cold for California (down to 20° at night), and each and every patient who came into the cancer center this week was offered a scarf and Jim said they're down to only about 20 scarves left. Guess I'd better get busy knitting!

Thanks to all who left suggestions!

Judy G, I need to know how to get in touch with you if you win! Your ideas are great, so I hope you drop back by and leave an email address.

If you're wondering about the deleted posts, they were duplicates.
