The Knit Exchange Bag

The "bag" has been received by my knit exchange partner so now I can share it with all of you. This was my first attempt at intarsia and I am pleased with the result. I started with a pattern for inspiration, but quickly abandoned it for a creation all my own.

The yarn is Brown Sheep's Lamb's Pride Bulky in Kiwi, Limeade, Lemondrop and RPM Pink. It felted up nicely, and just the rate I wanted as I wanted the bag to be large. The final size is 16" x 10" x 5". Big enough to hold a good size knitting project, with a pocket on one end for needles, and two smaller ones on the front for odds 'n ends.

I'm writing up the pattern, but haven't decided if I'll try to copyright it or just share it. My inclination is to make it available on "Bag-a-Holic" one of the Yahoo groups I'm on.

Here is a picture pre felting.

And here is the finished product. In one of the pictures you'll see that one end has lacing. That is ornamental, I used two strands of yarn for the laced part then added a third strand at the top so the tails could be braided.

For blocking purposes I had a box inside a plastic kitchen garbage bag to keep the shape of the bag. I also trimmed the ends of the braids after the photos were taken.

If you're wondering about the loose yarn on the handles, that was deliberate. I was going for a tweed look, which didn't happen. I kind of like the look that resulted. To get the tweed I was looking for perhaps mixing the yarns would have been more successful. It's unique!

Currently on the needles are a swatch of acrylic red heart in preparation for slippers that only a gauge is given for, not needle size. Also a gorgeous blue scarf made with three yarns held together. More about this later. And pictures, I promise!

Serious Privacy Threat to Yahoo Groups Users

I checked this out - it's true and I have opted out!

Yahoo is now using something called "Web Beacons" to track Yahoo Group users around the net and see what you're doing and where you are going similar to cookies. Yahoo is recording every website and every group you visit.

Take a look at their updated privacy statement: http://privacy.yahoo.com/privacy About half-way down the page, in the section on cookies, you will see a link that says web beacons.
Click on the phrase web beacons. That will bring you to a paragraphentitled "Outside the Yahoo Network." In this section you'll see a little "click here to opt out" link that will let you "opt-out" of their new method of snooping.
Once you have clicked that link, you are exempted.

Notice the "Success" message on the top of the next page. Be carefulbecause on that page there is a "Cancel Opt-out" button that, if clicked, will *undo** the opt-out.

Feel free to forward this to other groups.

Ooooohh, I love presents!

Today I received the purse from my Yahoo knit exchange partner and I love it. I couldn't have found something more to my liking if I'd chosen it in a store. I can hardly wait to transfer all my stuff into it. The creator of this beautiful purse is Nancy H. of New York.

Nancy, I haven't the words to thank you properly for this gorgeous purse. It is going to draw so many compliments especially at my Stitch 'n Bitch meetings where knitting is truly appreciated.

Happily I can report that the felting of the bag I made for my exchange partner went well. It is now in the blocking/drying process and then I can mail it. I can only hope that she likes her bag half as much as I like mine. Already I'm looking forward to the next exchange.

On Saturday I finished a scarf made with Tahki Scoop (a ladder or windowpane) type yarn and Trendsetter's Voila Print (an eyelash type) and it turned out very pretty. I added fringe to that scarf and another that has been finished for a while during our most recent S 'n B meeting. I will post pictures of them soon.

Speaking of the S 'n B meeting, it was the one year anniversary of our group and we chose to make it a swap meeting so we could get rid of some of the yarns in our stash that we really don't think we'll use. I took a lot - and got rid of a good portion of it. Also managed to get rid of some of my craft things that I'll never, ever use! Yeah, a successful meeting on my part. Yes, I did bring home a few things, I think 3 skeins of Homespun and a skein of Lion Brand pink Jiffy (mohair look) which I'll use for scarves.

On the needles now is my first attempt at a hat, just a simple stocking cap for my grandson, made with Red Heart medium weight worsted. He picked the colors, gold with red stripes and there will be enough yarn to make a red one with gold stripes too. I'm doing it in the round and it's going well. Quite an easy project after the bag I just finished.

Happy knitting, friends!

The Bag is Knitted

Finally the bag for the knit exchange is knitted. Tomorrow I'll take the final pics of it before felting. Then I'll pray that it turns out well. It's actually looking quite good (for a novice).

I've made no progress on any of the other items I've been working on. Sleep, or the lack of it has been the major deterrent lately. When I don't sleep well I don't concentrate well either so the bag has had my full and undivided attention.

I will post pictures of it once the recipient has received it.

Why is it when we're tired nothing seems to go right? I've typed this twice and when I highlight it to make a change it just kind of disappears!

We've had our 10 year old grandson visiting this week and my computer has been a good portion of his entertainment. That along with furiously knitting the bag for a knit exchange has left me little time to be here. I'm happy to report that I've made it past the portion I expect to be the most difficult on this bag, so it may actually reach it's destination by the deadline of mid-month. I hope so.

An early morning acupuncture appointment has my name on it so I'd better head off to bed. As those who know me best can affirm, I am not a morning person.

Busy as the proverbial bee!
